Wisconsin Green & Healthy Schools Program

Friendly Version

Wisconsin Green & Healthy Schools is a new web-based, voluntary program available to all public and private K-12 schools across Wisconsin. The standards-based program encourages teachers, staff and students to work together to use the school, its grounds, and the whole community as learning tools to help teach sound environmental, health, and safety practices. There is no time limit for completing the program.
Mission Statement
The Green & Healthy Schools program promotes, encourages and recognizes schools that become environmentally sustainable models in their communities. Educators, administrators, and others use Green & Healthy School resources--with support from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Public Instruction--to assist with curriculum integration, community involvement, and implementation of specific environmental, health, and safety criteria. By using the environment as an integrating factor, schools will be able to "lead by example" as they strive to protect our valuable natural resources.
Awards and Recognition
A school's greatest reward will be the ecological, economic, and educational benefit gained through participation in the Green & Healthy Schools Program. In addition, the Wisconsin DNR will recognize various stages of completion. See the state website for details.
