Hazardous and Special Waste
Printer
Friendly Version
Generally, waste is considered
hazardous if it is ignitable (i.e., burns readily), corrosive, or
reactive (e.g. explosive). Waste may also be considered hazardous
if it contains certain toxic chemicals. Most hazardous products
are labeled with key words to identify them. Some of the signal
words are Caution, Warning, Danger, Poison, Flammable, Combustible,
and Corrosive. Some typical hazardous wastes include: gasoline,
insecticides, herbicides and pesticides; oil-based paints, stains,
thinners, strippers, and solvents; as well as some cleaners and
other chemicals.
