Kitchen Scraps

What you can do.
  • Compost Them

Composting is the natural recycling process that you can begin at home with leaves, grass clippings, and other lawn and garden waste.  Fruit and vegetable kitchen scraps are high in nitrogen and can be used as one of the green yard wastes when making a compost pile.
  • Vermicompost Them

Worms can turn food waste into nutrient-rich humus for gardens and houseplants. Using a worm composting bin (also called a vermicomposting bin), you can make this valuable soil amendment out of things like: old newspapers, vegetable food scraps, trimmings from your house plants and other organic materials that you would normally throw away.
