The Be SMART Conservation Challenge

Printer Friendly Version

Welcome to Be Smart! The Be Smart Conservation Challenge is an exciting competition for high school students and college students in Southeastern Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Be SMART Coalition is glad that you are ready to make a big difference for your community, your education, and your planet. Welcome aboard!

The Be Smart Conservation Challenge invites you to come up with great ideas for reducing waste and putting them to work here on planet Earth. Ninth through twelfth graders and college undergraduates throughout Southeastern Wisconsin are eligible. Waste Reduction takes the idea of recycling a step further-- by using less material in the first place. Waste reduction saves landfill space and conserves resources (trees, land, water, minerals...) while helping businesses, schools, and individuals cut costs. Waste reduction goes beyond what is required by Wisconsin's recycling law. Activities that prevent water and air pollution or conserve energy are also forms of waste reduction.

This site will help you brainstorm, choose the best environmental solution for the problem you choose, plan actions and measure the difference you make. Summaries of projects done by other students for a now-discontinued scholarship program are provided to help you get ideas. Use the menu to the left to browse resources to help you take action.
