*Technical
Requirements for Viewing the Webcast:
This workshop will be a live video
webcast viewed by logging on to the workshop site listed
at this address http://videocast.nih.gov.
To view the webcast all individual participants and
projected webcast sites must use the latest version
of Real Player software. A free version of the software
may be downloaded at http://www.real.com.
Approximately 24 hours after the live webcast an archived
version of the workshop will be available for viewing
at any time.
Special Instructions for Sites Projecting the
Live Webcast:
Videoconferencing (VTC) is the most elegant solution
for a large group of people in a room to watch events
like this because it will be closer to a TV experience.
Arrangements for VTC sites must be made with the NIH
well in advance of the workshop, and there are potentially
significant costs for this service. If VTC is not an
option, a projected webcast can work, although the quality
and frame rates can be disappointing if Internet QOS
issues arise. Sites not using VTC are strongly advised
to download and install the Real player software, and
test the connections and hardware well in advance of
the November 17 webcast. This can be done by viewing
any one of NIH’s live or 1,600 + past events on the
NIH VideoCast site (http://videocast.nih.gov)
. If connection problems are encountered these may be
due to firewalls.
If so, site operators should forward the following information
to their network staff:
Real uses RTSP at port 554 (or PNM over port 7070)
for unicasting.
These have to be allowed through your firewall to
connect to our events.
These are the default ports RealServer uses (and the
standard for RTSP).
If a broadcast site cannot adjust
their firewall, then NIH may allow the site to download
the archived video file the following day over FTP.
If technical assistance is needed please contact Scott
Collins at the NIH Center for Information Technology,
DNST Video Section at 301-594-1961
or sc@nih.gov.

Obtaining Continuing Education Credits:
Teachers may be eligible to receive Continuing Education
Units (CEUs) for viewing the live videocast of this
workshop. To receive CEUs, participants must either
submit a question or comment during the three-hour workshop.
The question or comment should be at least one paragraph
in length and include a reflection/reaction on the workshop
content, a question or request for additional information
on a related topic. Individual participants may submit
these responses online using the Live Event Feedback
Form at http://videocast.nih.gov/livefeedback.asp.
Participants in groups attending a broadcast of the
workshop at physical sites must sign the attendance
log.
Note: CEUs and CPDUs for Illinois Teachers will only
be provided for those participating on November 17,
2003. |
